An apiary is a location where hives of honey bees are kept and my design has been inspired by beekeeping across Jersey. There is a strong history of beekeeping on the island and 2017 saw the Jersey Beekeepers Association celebrate their centenary, commemorated with a range of stamps. The current bee population of Jersey is under threat due to the invasion of Asian Hornets drawing a parallel with the plight of the gorilla population. My design features wild heather which has long played a part in the landscape of Jersey and is a favourite source of nectar for bees.
