Welcome to our
exciting new
adventure for 2019...

Brightly coloured, artist imagined, life-size gorilla sculptures will be placed across the island and will lead people on a trail of discovery, not only to see the gorillas themselves, but the nature in which they are placed.

Durrell will be working in partnership with Wild in Art to produce this high-quality, meaningful, and innovative event that makes a difference. Their global brand and events have enabled more than £10million to be raised for charitable causes to date and helped millions of people of all ages to experience art by making it a part of everyday life. Wild in Art events are hugely popular wherever they take place, offering an excellent return on your investment whether that be staff engagement, supporting local initiatives or driving sales and footfall.

Since 2008 Wild in Art has animated cities across the world including Sydney, Melbourne, Cape Town and Sao Paulo, and created trails for the London Olympics, the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Historic Royal Palaces and Penguin Random House.

This is a unique and innovative opportunity to promote your business; drive customers to your door and support a much loved local charity. Our Go Wild Gorilla project offers a wealth of opportunities for you to get involved and maximise the benefits of the project that spans 12 months and beyond. For 3 months, starting in the height of the summer season of 2019, life-size gorilla sculptures will inhabit our streets and wild spaces showcasing a wealth of artistic talent, whilst encouraging everyone to benefit from feeling connected to nature.

The Creative Learning Programme will enable hundreds of people to learn about conservation and experience the importance of creativity both within school and also the wider community as part of the main event. Schools and colleges will adopt and design their own smaller ‘young gorillas’ whilst engaging in an island wide programme, learning all about gorillas and the work at Durrell. Go Wild Gorillas will also give community groups the opportunity to work with local artists to create their own young gorilla. These designs will have their own ‘shop window’ trail before returning to live permanently with their adopted school or community group

Well-known, emerging and as yet, undiscovered artists are invited to take part in creating the biggest ever, mass participation, public art event across the Channel Islands. Successful artists will be commissioned to customise each sculpture, it will act as a showcase for artists’ designs, attracting regional, national and international tourists, as well as residents, to discover the wonderful world of conservation through the visual arts. By bringing artists, businesses, schools and communities together, the event will generate momentum and support to achieve Durrell’s aim to create a wilder, healthier and more colourful world for future generations.
